Where Gate 40 sits
Gate 40 belongs to the Heart / Ego / Will centre, the centre of willpower and worth: promises, value and what you are prepared to commit to. A gate is one of the 64 openings on the bodygraph; when a planet sat in its arc of the zodiac at your birth or in your Design period, the gate is active in your chart and colours how that centre shows up for you.
Its channels
With Gate 37 (Friendship) it forms the Channel of Community / The Bargain, joining the Heart / Ego / Will and Solar Plexus centres. When both gates are active in a chart, that channel is defined and both centres run consistently.
The I Ching root
Each Human Design gate maps to one of the 64 hexagrams of the I Ching. Gate 40 corresponds to hexagram 40, Deliverance, which is where its keynote, Aloneness, draws its theme.

How these positions are worked out
Gate positions follow the standard Human Design wheel: 64 gates of 5°37′30″ each, with Gate 41 starting at 2°00′ Aquarius, the same table the site's bodygraph calculator uses. The Sun's dates are drawn from its apparent position for the year shown, so they shift by up to a day between years.
