How the compatibility scores are worked out
These are sun-sign readings, not full natal comparisons. Each pairing starts from its element pair (Fire, Earth, Air, Water; the same two elements score the same love and friendship base), then a modality adjustment (Cardinal, Fixed, Mutable) for how the two signs start, hold and change things. Overall is a weighted mix: 35% love, 25% friendship, 20% communication, 20% long-term.
Love then moves by half the gap between the pairing's Venus figure and the average, and communication by a quarter of its Mercury gap, both counted from 20,000 real birthday pairs; nothing is added at random, and the same pair always gets the same score. How the pairing figures are counted
Each compatibility page shows what 20,000 real birthday pairs do for that pairing. For every pair of Sun signs we drew that many pairs of birth dates at random from 1950 to 2005, cast both charts at noon UTC, and counted how often each contact formed within 8 degrees. Birth times are unknown, so the Moon can be a few degrees out. It is what the sky does for the pairing, not a prediction about any couple.
What the contacts are: Venus and Venus, Venuses conjunct, sextile or trine: what each of you finds attractive and how you show affection; Mercury and Mercury, Mercuries conjunct, sextile or trine: how easily you talk things through; Moon and Moon, Moons conjunct, sextile or trine: what you each need to feel settled; Venus and Mars, a major aspect between one Venus and the other Mars: attraction and spark; Saturn hard contact, one Saturn conjunct, square or opposite the other's Sun, Moon or Venus: duty, weight and staying power.
Sun-sign compatibility compares two points out of the twenty or so in each birth chart. It describes the general shape of a pairing, not the relationship you are in.
