How Horoscope Vibes Calculates Charts and Writes Readings

Horoscope Vibes is run by PineSeed Pty Ltd, a small Australian company. Planet positions, dates and birth charts are calculated from an astronomical ephemeris. The writing (horoscopes, articles, sign and compatibility guides, and Vera's replies) is machine-written and checked by automated rules. No astrologer writes or reviews it, and no person reads each piece before it goes live.

Where the planet positions come from

Every chart, transit and date on the site is calculated from an astronomical ephemeris: the Moshier ephemeris, a published numerical model of the Sun, Moon and planets, used through the open-source circular-natal-horoscope-js library. Positions are geocentric (as seen from Earth) and accurate to about one minute of arc for modern dates, far finer than any astrological reading needs.

Daily horoscopes use the positions at 12:00 UTC on the date shown. The retrograde, eclipse, moon phase and transit calendar pages are built from the same ephemeris and can be checked against any almanac.

Zodiac and house systems

Western charts use the tropical zodiac. Vedic charts subtract the Lahiri ayanamsa to give sidereal positions and use whole-sign houses from the sidereal ascendant.

Full birth charts use Placidus houses, the most widely used system in modern Western astrology. Daily readings and the planet-in-house tables use whole-sign houses, because they count houses from a sign rather than from an exact birth time.

Birth times and places

Your birth place gives a latitude, longitude and time zone, including historical daylight saving. When the time is missing we place the planets at 12:00 UTC and do not show a rising sign, Midheaven or houses rather than guess them. The Moon can change sign during a day, so on those days the calculators say the answer depends on the time.

Aspects

The five major aspects are used, with orbs of 8 degrees for conjunctions, oppositions and trines, 7 for squares and 6 for sextiles. Personal readings weight a transit by how close it is to exact.

How interpretations are written

Horoscopes, articles, guides such as this one and Vera's replies are written by automated writing tools from the calculated positions and the traditions of Western astrology, then checked by automated rules for structure, wording and claims we cannot support. No astrologer writes or reviews them, and no person reads each piece before it is published. The operator sets the rules, reads every correction request and edits or removes anything wrong.

A reading that fails its checks is not published. Articles that claim surveys, studies or tests this site never ran, or statistics without a linked source, are held back automatically.

Limits

The astronomy is checkable fact. The meaning given to it is interpretation from tradition, not science, and not medical, legal, financial or psychological advice. A Sun-sign horoscope describes the sky for a sign, not for you; a reading cast from your own chart is more specific, but it is still interpretation.
