What the 9th house covers
The 9th house is the opposite of the 3rd: where the 3rd is local, everyday information, the 9th is the big picture, the long trip and the belief that holds a life together. It describes what you are prepared to stake your opinions on.
It is Jupiter's natural house, which links it with growth through learning and travel.
Planets in the 9th house
Jupiter here is at home and widens horizons. The Sun here makes a natural teacher or traveller. Saturn here takes belief seriously and may delay formal study. Uranus here holds unusual views.
An empty 9th house
Read the cusp sign for your style of belief and learning, and the ruler's house for where travel or study takes you.
A worked example
