George R.R. Martin is an American author whose epic fantasy series A Song of Ice and Fire became the HBO phenomenon Game of Thrones, one of the most-watched television series ever made. A longtime science-fiction and horror writer who won Hugo and Nebula awards decades before Westeros, he built a sprawling world of morally grey characters where no hero is safe. His prequel Fire & Blood spawned the series House of the Dragon, while readers famously await the saga's next volume. His Virgo obsession with detail built a fictional history so intricate it rivals the real Middle Ages.
