Anne Frank spent two years hidden in an Amsterdam annexe and kept a diary throughout, revising it herself in the last months after hearing a radio broadcast asking Dutch civilians to preserve their wartime accounts. She died in Bergen-Belsen at fifteen. Her father was the only member of the household to survive, and published the diary in 1947.
