What your North Node sign tells you

The lunar nodes are not planets. They are the two points where the Moon's orbit crosses the Sun's apparent path, and eclipses happen near them. Astrology reads the North Node as where you are heading and the South Node as where you are coming from.

The nodes move backwards through the zodiac and take about eighteen months to cross a sign, so people born within the same year and a half share a nodal axis.

How this calculator works

Enter your birth date, and a time and place if you have them. The calculator casts the same chart as the full birth chart, from the Moshier ephemeris in the tropical zodiac, and reads the sign and degree of one point. The South Node is always exactly opposite the North Node.

Common questions

What is the South Node?

The point opposite the North Node. It describes familiar habits and strengths you can lean on too much.

Why does the North Node move backwards?

The Moon's orbit slowly turns, so the crossing points drift backwards through the zodiac, completing a circuit every 18.6 years.
