The placements that speak to purpose

Four parts of the chart come up again and again in questions about direction.

• The North Node - the direction of growth. It usually feels unfamiliar and slightly uncomfortable, which is part of how you recognise it.
• The South Node, directly opposite - what you already do well and fall back on. Useful, but not where the growth is.
• The Midheaven - the public direction: what you want to be known for, and the work that feels like arriving.
• Saturn - the thing you're meant to build slowly. It's often where you feel least qualified and end up most respected.

A direction, not a destination

People often bring this question hoping for an answer they can act on tomorrow. A chart rarely gives one. What it gives is a direction to check your choices against: does this move me towards my North Node, or back into the comfort of the South? Does this build the thing Saturn is asking for, or avoid it?

That turns a vague question into a practical one, and it's a question you can ask of every decision rather than once.

Why the question gets loud when it does

The purpose question tends to surface under particular transits: your Saturn return around 29 and again around 58, Saturn or Jupiter crossing your Midheaven, and slow planets contacting your Sun. If one of these is active in your chart, the reading names it and gives its dates, which often explains why a life that felt fine last year suddenly feels too small.

Your chart won't hand you a title, but it points somewhere quite clear. Your North Node is in Leo in the tenth house, and your South Node in Aquarius in the fourth. The South Node is where you're comfortable: in the background, part of a group, useful and unseen. The North Node asks for the opposite - to be visible, to lead, to make something with your name on it. That usually feels exposing, which is why it's easy to drift back to the familiar. There's timing in this too: Saturn is crossing your Midheaven this year, exact in November, and that is when the question of what you're actually building gets hard to ignore. So the feeling of waste may not mean you're on the wrong path. It may mean you've outgrown the safe one.

What is the North Node?

It's one of the two points where the Moon's orbit crosses the Sun's apparent path through the sky, and its position when you were born is part of your chart. Astrologers read it as the direction of growth: unfamiliar at first, and usually where life feels most meaningful once you lean into it.

Do I need my birth time?

For the Midheaven and the houses, yes. The North Node's sign is the same all day, so it can be read without a time, along with Saturn's sign and aspects.
