What you are actually seeing The Geminids peak on Monday 14 December 2026. Every meteor is a grain of debris shed by asteroid 3200 Phaethon, hitting the atmosphere at tens of kilometres a second and burning up around eighty kilometres overhead. The Earth crosses this same stream on the same dates every year, which is why the date barely moves — it is our orbit meeting the comet's trail, not an event on a schedule.
